She couldn't have explained it any more than she could have gotten another to believe what was occuring this night, at her kitchen table, but she felt no fear, not even when his tone got fierce and his eyes turned that feral shade of red. Again he spoke to her with self recrimination. It was her inclination to reach out and touch his hand, as you would when comforting someone in a moment of crisis. However 'childlike' her approach to the world was, she was not a total idiot. In his hungered state she imagined touching him would bring him anything but comfort.
Pouring her cup of tea, she placed it between the palms of her hand just staring into the cup and warmning her hands while she breathed in the frangrance. She took no sweeteners prefering not to mask the tea's natural flavor. "The remarkable part is in seeing something within that you do not like and making that change." She raised her eyes to his hoping her would see the sincerity that lay within. "Such a geat accomplihsment yet you seem to value it as nothing. I wonder why..." She sipped her tea gazing at him over the rim of her cup.

He sat there, his face hidden in his hands as he calmed himself, slowly he could feel his eyes shifting back to their usual shade of greenish gold, his fangs slowly shrinking back behind his lips.
Her words made him sigh deeply, He had never thought about his realization the way she apparently did... he had always thought of it as a realization of how much of a beast and monster he truly is.... She had no idea how often he stood in the mirror staring at himself after that night, how many times he had been so angry at himself for what he had done so long ago... And how that child's face haunted him... every single day.
Slowly he let his hands fall away, his appearance normal for the time being, his eyes shifted to hers and he spoke softly. "...I do not value it because in the end I will always be me... There will always be that part of me that wants to feed and kill... I simply ignore and live with it."

She set her cup down and lowered her eyes. "It would be nice if the world was as cut and dry as we wished it to be, wouldn't it? Unfortunately it seems that your world runs by much of the same rules as my own. We don't get to be perfect, none of us." She thought back on the prior week and her actions with another special sort of being. Where was he this night? And the mercenary? Why were these people coming into her life like this? What was it about herself that she managed to get into the most bizzaar situations? Lycan last week, vampire this week. Would the gret horned lord of the forest come knocking at her door tomorrow? And why hadn't she been so shocked to hear Jacob was a vampire? You'd have thought that after meeting Hide and Wolf that she would have been ready for Jacob. Onyl she hadn't been...

Jacob smiled slightly at her words, nodding in agreement. "Indeed... Oh well, I guess the best one can do is try their hardest to be the best they can." He let out a soft sigh, and closed his eyes a moment, taking in a deep breath, the scent of the tea permeating his nostrils. "So...Is there anything else you would like to know Calendrea?"

She laughed and said, "oh Jacob. You have no idea the depth of my curiosity. Perhaps you should not encourage me so readily." She rose from her chair and walked over to the counter to grab a box of almond shortbreads. She put som eon a plate from the dishdrainer and brought them over to the table. Then she looked to him with embarassment all over her body. "Forgive me, Jacob. I was just raised to feed people when they come over..." Her face turned a terrible shade of red and she shook her head. "...I mean the cookies...you said it didn't help..." Realizing she was just making it worse, she took her seat and let her tea quiet her mouth.

Jacob watched her, smiling softly as she gathered food and placed it on a plate, laughing softly as she spoke he shook his head. "Its fine, I've gone without feeding for longer than this, and I doubt some food infront of me will throw me over the edge." He gave her a playful wink and leaned forward, grabbing one of the small shortbread cookies, he took a bite and smiled. "Mmm...Very tasty."
He finished the cookie and stretched his arms while he sat in the chair. "Well, I encourage your curiousity... I really don't mind... honestly it's been a while since I just sat and spoke with someone. I rather enjoy it."

She relaxed visibly and reached for a cookie of her own. Washing it down with the hot tea, she poured herself another cup before conintuing the interigation. "I am enjoying the company too, Jacob. Though I must admit that staying up so late is not something I do very often." Despite the lateness of the hour she as not a bit sleepy and felt she could go on like this for quite sometime.
"Perhaps the best place to start is at the begining. Where were you from originally? What sort of changes you must have seen in the world..."

Jacob smiled softly at her and nodded at her words. "I understand." He watched he eat a cookie and sip her tea, he closed his eyes a moment as she asked another question about him, one of his past... where he was from...
As his mind floated back through the ages he came to where he lived, He smiled, remembering the beautiful nights in his home, He couldn't remember quite where he had lived for the first part of his life..."Well, I lived outside of a small town somewhere in what was at the time the French empire.... I really can't tell you more than that... I just don't remember... It wasn't an overly exciting time in my life."

"I can't even begin to imagine beging so old as to have forgotten where I had come from, Jacob." She put the cup down and looked at him with a penetrating stare as though her eyes could read the depths of his soul. "What about your family? Are there any of them left alive?" She colored again wondering if alive was even the right term to use for his kind.

Jacob smiled at her words and gave her a shrug. "Five hundred years is a long time, too many other things in my head to remember unimportant things like where I came from." He glanced downward at his hands, heaving a deep and pained sigh at her question. "...I was an only child, My mother and father were killed when I was still young, younger than even you."
He closed his eyes and rested his face in his hands as his mind wandered back to that night.... Nearly a dozen vampires stormed into his home, His father fought with all his might, while his mother got him out of the house before going back in to help his father.... He knew they were both dead... Because they came looking for him, so he ran, as fast and far as his feet would take him from that place.
His entire body shivered slightly as he returned to the present. "...I prefer not to speak about it. "

Impulsively she reached out and touched his hand, she couldn't help but respond to such obvious pain. "Forgive me, Jacob. I think I have pressed you hard enough for one night. I don't mean to be rude, truely I don't." It was an inconcievable twist in their encounter with one another. She found it somehwat amazing herself that she could go from spitting venom in his face to genuine concern in just the space of two days' time, but there it was.
Calendrea was not someone who ever wished to see others hurt and be unable to reach out to them even if it was to say some stupid platitude of comfort. Truely being there was often the only service your could do for a person, so much was up to that individual to solve on their own. She looked at this man before her and felt perhaps it wouldn't be such an evil thing he had requested...

Jacob let out a soft sigh at her unexpected touch, he could feel the warmth of her hand on his own, He felt somewhat comforted by the contact, He pulled his face from his hands and smiled weakly at her. "...It's alright, you didn't know. I'll be fine..."
He shifted in his chair, a slight blush creeping across his pale cheeks as he glanced down at her hand on his. "They were killed by my own kind... See they didn't feel that the war between the Immortal races had any merit... Both sides have every right to be and live freely in this world, and so they were killed for it." He said it rather matter of factly, he gently placed his other hand over her own and softly squeezed it, accepting the bit of comfort her touch offered.

That she was sitting there holding hands with him didn't quite register at first. She wasn't overly fond of physical contact between strangers, but then they were fastly becoming something other than strangers. Still, it wasn't abhorrant to her either. Her brothers and sisters were always hugging and wrestling with each other, even fighting from time to time. So as she became more accoustomed to his presence, her views of him rapidly changed. No longer did she think of him as vile, and he certainly was not a stranger to her. What she did feel though was difficult to define, so she stayed clear of that realm and concentrated instead upon what he was saying.
"I never knew that these things happened in the world, Jacob. It makes me feel like a child who thinks the entirety of life is embodied in her parents until she sees a crowd for the first time and suddenly her world rapidly expands to include others." She looked to see her hands linked in his but was not discomforted, rather she brought her other hand up to trace the veins on the back of his hand absentmindedly. With her eyes on the path that her fingers trailed against his flesh she said, "Does this war continue to this day? Are there those who would kill you even now because of your views?"

He stared down at his hand atop her own, letting out a soft sigh, He had always enjoyed physical contact with others, especially humans, He could feel the life in their body, and it always comforted him in an odd way, he could feel her pulse, could feel her blood pumping through her veins, slowly his eyes drifted shut at the constant thumping of her heart.
Jacob smiled slightly and nodded at her words, Her company was growing on him, His eyes slowly opened as he felt her fingertips on the back of his hand, watching her trace the veins in it he spoke softly. "...As far as I know it is still going on... Progressed from full scale army versus army of immortals to a war fought in the shadows, hidden from most of humanity." Leaning down slightly, his nose a few inches from her hand he took in a deep breath, allowing her scent to permeate his nostrils a moment before exhaling to speak. "I'm sure they would... But none have succeeded so far."

It was a terrible way to have to live, this perpetual warzone mentality. How anyone could stand it for a number of years she would never know. Those poor people in the Middle East who just wanted to raise their children, love their partners, and live a normal life being at the mercy of those who made war, those who profited from it, and those who instigated attrocity made her heart grieve. But to endure that life century after centrury...it was intollerable.
When he leaned in to smell the skin upon the backof her hand, she couldn't help but turn her wrist over in silent offering. Her eyes bore down upon him with the fullness of her compassion for his eternal suffering.
