Character Info
Name: Hideki "Hide" Minami
Gender: Male
Age: 226
Eye Color: Vivid Blue
Eye Color: Crimson
Hair Color: Black
Coat Color: White, Silver
Race: 'Pure Blood' Lycan
Pack: White Fang Pack
Rank: Alpha Male
Character Description:
Appearing to be in his early twenties, Hideki appears to stand at a height of five feet (5') and eight inches (8"), with an apparently healthy weight of 142 lbs. Muscle ripples beneath his pale skin to a decently toned degree, but is by no means excessive. He is likely to be seen wearing a dark pair of jeans along with a dress shirt, tie and a light jacket; black clothing is a personal favorite of his, if only for the sheer advantages that they provide under the cover of the late night. You will never find him without a pair of black tint glasses tucked away inside his jacket's pocket.
His black hair falls to shoulder length and hangs across his vivid optics, sporting a bit of a wild appearance; however, the 'soft-to-the-touch' feeling cannot be denied. His blue, clear eyes seem to give the impression that he is peering into your soul; picking apart and examining you with his unblinking, piercing gaze. While these characteristics would appear to allow him to pass in the world as a mortal, it should be quite obvious to any informed supernatural being that by the nature of his kind, these human impressions are not without their flaws: just as any other lycan, he shares the elongated canine teeth, sensitivity to light, and so forth the other characteristics of his race.
While in the stage of his "True Form", Minami developes -- in quite a contrast to his human hair, I might add -- a snow-white coat of fur across the whole of his massive body, which is laced with something of a silver gloss around the tips of its billowy, soft fibre. The only exception to be noted is that of his underbelly, which is nothing but pure white. Another distinct contrast to his mortal shape is the exceptional size increase accompanied with his transformation; naturally, a drastic difference in muscle tone and the sheer magnitude of his body is to be expected. Rather than the sultry vivid blue in his human form, his eyes are an intense, fiery crimson when morphed.
Personality:
Cold, calculating, and generally apathetic as far as emotion goes, the lycan is rarely anything but an unpleasant and even frustrating individual. Being alone for the majority of his life, he does not have much experience in dealing with people and their unusually strong feelings; which has in turn affected his ability to communicate at a level of tone that is not overtly harsh; though truth be told, he has not once shown interest in attempting to correct himself when cross. It is highly unlikely that you will ever encounter a moment in which he will be laughing; although it is possible to witness a thin, emotionless smile crawl across his solemn lips from time to time, he reserves his greatest moments of feeling for the very few associated with his personal life, and likewise the unfortunate soul to ever threaten the existence of said people.
Conversing with the majority of either human or lycan societies fails to take first place as one of his favourite pastimes -- far from it, for certain -- and so relationships, friendships and the like are not easy to come by in his case. This is not necessarily unfortunate in his mind, and this is largely due to the fact that he struggles with an apparent fear of "losing" those close to him; a depressing, and much more than that, infuriating thought. While he appears to value the lives of his lycan brethren, human and vampiric "life" disgust him to no end; the image of a planet free from the very reality of these races has come to resurface time and time again within the view of his mental eye.
There is little that Hideki can admit to enjoying: he is more often exasperated by children and their countless games than not, and cannot be bothered to indulge in the nightlife; or for clearer definition, I should say "party life". The lifestyle of a college student could only irritate him, and likely to the point of anger; yet oddly enough, he has developed a robust taste for the fine side of alcohol over the years. The highlights of his life include literature and various athletics; diving and running rest comfortably as his personal favourites. From time to time he can be seen with weights during and/or between his athletic sessions.
Family:
Blood-Related; Assumed to be deceased, Adoptive Guardians; Deceased
History:
Born to two 'Pure Bloods' during the 18th Century, Hideki Minami was an only child of Japanese and Thai descent. His parents' names are beyond him at this point: as he was only young (no more than three years), it isn't possible for him to express clearly what had happened to his birth parents. Of course, abandonment is a possibility (and this is what he suspects), but regardless of what happened, he was adopted by an unusually kind 'Halfbreed' by the name of Yuki, and her cold, pureblooded mate. Both she and 'The Alpha' (as her mate shall be called, for he was not human and therefore had no need for a name) were nomads seperated from their original pack, carrying with them the hope to lay claim to the region, in order to raise a force against the vampires in the west. They lived in the mountainous ranges of Late-18th century Hokkaidō, Japan (though it was known as Ezochi then), and often rotated their living arrangements in order to avoid any unnecessary contact with the native Ainu inhabitants. They raised and nurtured the then young Hide; taught him their personal views and the 'laws' of the lycan race, and allowed him to acknowledge his abilities as a birth-right. For a time the pack had flourished, thrived and lived free off the land.
This was very short lived however, as Japan's own sect of "hunters" had already chased the young pack to the brink of extinction by the time Minami was seventeen years of age; they had been discovered by the Ainu some years back. This resulted in stillborn rates reaching alarming numbers: stress levels among the pack were rising as the Japanese influence in Hokkaidō increased year by year, and the members knew -- they knew that they would be cut down to be replaced, to fuel the greed of humanity, if they did not take immediate action. It was at this point that the notion to utilize their humanoid forms was risen, as they were previously instructed to remain as "True" to their real nature as possible; Hide considering the proposition himself on more than one occaision. However, the Alpha would not alter his law, citing his concern that should they model themselves after their enemy, they would begin to lose sight of their own identities and would eventually begin to forsake their heritage. The lycans (referred to as 'yōkai' by the hunters) fought the humans on a near daily basis. While they fought with vigor and valiance, the dwindling numbers of members over the past years cast them into a dire situation. Their unfortunate fate was inevitable: they were wiped out systematically. The natives of Ezochi (the Ainu), no longer ambivalent toward the lycan presence, finally came to an agreement with the hunters in order to vanquish the 'yōkai' presence entirely. The plan was to simply take note of and map the many various locations in which the clan had been sighted over the years, where they would blockade and ambush any lycanthrope on sight. It is not entirely clear why they [the Ainu] chose the path they did, but fear seems to have been a factor, though it was likely fear inspired by the hunters.
Member after member they were slain, until even Yuki fell victim to the blade: cornered by an armed force of the ever increasing hunter presence, his mentor, his love, was cut down and decapitated before his own eyes. To this day he swears that he felt the last blow as it landed. For the first time he felt the blood in his veins boil -- let the meaning of 'control' slip from his mind, even the possbility of 'Death' was cast from his recognition -- and he struck them. A warm, crimson mist washed over his body as he lashed at them one by one under the illuminance of the moonlit sky's gaze. Remorseful, tired and infuriated, he ran just as the remaining members did. But no matter where he went throughout Hokkaidō, it seemed that they [humans] were always ten paces ahead of him, and then another ten behind to catch him when he fell into their traps. He was not entirely incapable of protecting himself from their attacks, but the lack of a suitable cavern or burrow and their relentless persistence were things that frightened his soul dearly: without shelter he was vulnerable and exposed, and with the years climbing closer and closer to the Meiji Restoration, the mortals only strengthened their pursuit. Thus, with only a handful of options left before him (and most of them spelling nothing but death), Minami would reluctantly assume the name and shape of a human. It was by creating this façade that he could successfully slip into the life of human society and eventually, throughout the centuries, study the lives of the many varieties of people, from the East side of the planet to the West. It was centuries later that he would attempt to seat himself beneath the mortals' noses, as the leader of the White Fang Pack.
